The Challenge: The Learning Curve to Launch
Audrey Knodell, BSN-RN, is the owner and founder of Authentic Aesthetics, located in Cedar Park, TX. Her journey in aesthetics started in 2019 when she got her first Botox treatment before her wedding. “Previously I’d been working in neonatal and didn't know that aesthetics was a career option, but I had that first appointment and was hooked immediately. I started my didactic training in 2020, and then fully transitioned into the field at the end of 2021,” she explained.
She decided to jump in and launch her medspa while still in nurse practitioner school full-time. However, due to her busy schedule, she struggled to find the time and capacity to navigate the tedious legal aspects and back-end business of her medspa launch.
“I think the biggest challenge is that I am a clinician first and foremost, and not a business person,” she noted. “When you get into a field that you know nothing about, that's very intimidating, especially for something like an aesthetics business where there are many legal aspects that need to get tied up and taken care of before you can start practicing. That was very intimidating and a big learning curve for sure.”
